About CALM
CALM’s Aims and Objectives:
As NZ CALM is the only NGO in New Zealand primarily focussed on landmines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) we accept the responsibility for keeping the public, other NGOs, politicians and Government Departments aware of the problems these inhumane weapons create and the steps necessary to provide solutions.
- To encourage and strengthen government resolve to implement the Mine Ban Treaty worldwide.
- To devise and implement a media strategy
- To raise funds so we can work professionally.
- To publicise and support projects such as the Night of a Thousand Dinners and Adopt a Minefield.
- To increase public support.
- To continue to implement the CALM policy on cluster bombs and to encourage our Government to be an active participant in the international forum on Explosive Remnants of War.
- To work with the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and other international NGOs to implement the Mine Ban Treaty worldwide.
- To raise awareness of landmine issues to people under 25.
CALM’s members are people and organisations who have indicated their desire to be part of CALM, normally by way of completion of a membership application form and payment of a membership fee or donation.
CALM is a member of ICBL, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines which was co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in December 1997.
